Ice skating has always been popular among all age groups in South Tyrol. Merano/Meran and its surrounding areas have a lot to offer families who enjoy winter pastimes on the ice.
Merano is home to the Meranarena ice stadium, and a temporary skating rink is also in place over Christmas in the town center, in Thermenplatz square. In nearby Val Senales/Schnalstal Valley, ice skating is also possible on the fields of Madonna di Senales/Unser Frau and Certosa/Karthaus. The natural ice skating rinks of Plan/Pfelders and Vigiljoch mountain near Lana are ideal for nature lovers, while other ice skating facilities can be found in Val d'Ultimo/Ultental Valley, near the Schwemmalm ski area in Pracupola/Kuppelwies, and in Scena/Schenna.
There is no shortage of rental outlets available for those needing equipment or skates.
