Tips for your hiking holidays in South Tyrol

Hiking in South Tyrol/Südtirol starts with the first warm rays of sun in March. The Texelgruppe Nature Park and the Sarntal Alps offer rich opportunities for hiking around Merano/Meran: the variety of hiking areas invite guests to enjoy a relaxed hike, as well as for high-altitude mountaineering. Well-kept trails lead up to mountain inns with panoramic views. These also offer the chance to sample regional dishes such as dumplings (Knödel in German) or apple strudel, made from fresh, local ingredients.

Families will appreciate the easy leisurely strolls along ancient irrigation channels, the Waalwege trails, and the shady forest paths. Experienced mountaineers can take guided tours to the peaks of the Texelgruppe Natural Park, or embark on a week-long excursion through South Tyrol, for example, along the Merano High Mountain Trail as part of the European Long-Distance Hiking Trail. Cable cars, hiking buses and trail maps all help facilitate hiking in the area.

A particularly striking hiking experience is a Five Fingers hikes. This toe shoe allows the feeling of walking as if barefoot, and strengthens muscles and tendons.
