There is an old tradition of walking by the water in South Tyrol/Südtirol. On Sunday afternoons, families make their way to the Waalwege trails and follow the historic water channels through vineyards and forests. The level waterways provide fascinating views of the variety of local nature in South Tyrol. Their original role was the irrigation of orchards and fields. Small canals guided the water into the valley. This sophisticated irrigation system is still used today.

Comfortable waterside strolls can be found by the reservoirs in the unique Val d’Ultimo/Ultental Valley, on the Spronser Seen lakes plateau in the Texelgruppe Nature Park, and around the Vernago lake in Val Senales/Schnalstal Valley.
