In Val Passiria/Passeiertal Valley there is one of the largest and most spectacular ice climbing facilities in Europe: the 25 meter high ice tower in Corvara/Rabenstein. Attracting climbers from across South Tyrol/Südtirol as well as all over Europe, the tower offers various routes for all experience levels. As many as 18 climbers can participate at one time.
The ice falls in Merano and its surrounding areas are suitable for more experienced climbers. The waterfalls in Val Senales/Schnalstal Valley and Val Passiria/Passeiertal Valley offer ice climbers a wide range of routes at difficulty levels ranging between WI 3 and WI 6 as well as Mixed Tours up to M5. The best conditions for ice climbing in South Tyrol are found between December and March.
