Sissi
Sissi

Meran’s most illustrious guest, the empress Sissi of Austria (1837-1898), is celebrated by a statue carved in 1903 and placed within the Elisabeth park, near the Postbrücke.

The statue was made of Laas marble by the sculptor Hermann Klotz and represents the empress as a young woman who, by her posture, appears not as regent, but as a guest of a health resort. During Fascism, the monument was relegated to an barely visisble corner of the park and only returned to its place in 1977 after a restoration.
