Juval Castle is the summer residence of Reinhold Messner. The medieval system above the narrow Val Senales/Schnalstal Valley gorge near Naturno/Naturns has been in Messner’s possession since 1983 and now houses one of the six Messner Mountain Museums. The Alpinist has dedicated the entire exhibition to the myths of the mountains. There is a mountain wildlife park for the kids and for connoisseurs there is farm produce available in the Schlosswirt inn, with excellent wines in the Unterortl winery and at the foot of the Juval Castle hill a farmers’ shop.
The extreme mountain climber, book author and former politician was born in 1944 and has made over 100 journeys in mountains and deserts all over the world since 1969. He had undertaken many first ascents.
