La randonnée en Sud-Tyrol peut commencer dès le mois de mars, avec les premiers rayons chauds du soleil. Les différents sites de randonnée autour de Merano/Meran invitent à d’agréables promenades ainsi qu’à l’alpinisme de haute montagne. Le parc naturel du massif du Texel (Naturpark Texelgruppe) et les Alpes de Sarntal accueillent différents sentiers de randonnée entre 300 et 3200 m d’altitude. Des chemins de randonnées bien signalisés et entretenus conduisent à des auberges ancestrales où la vue est panoramique. Des produits régionaux y sont servis tels que le Knödel ou l’Apfelstrudel, avec des ingrédients frais et locaux.

Les familles apprécieront les Waalwege, des chemins sans trop de dénivellation au bord de l’eau, ainsi que les allées ombragées en forêt. Les alpinistes expérimentés peuvent prendre part à des randonnées guidées à 3000 m d’altitude dans le parc naturel du massif du Texel, ou bien entreprendre une excursion de plusieurs jours à travers le Tyrol du Sud, en empruntant par exemple le sentier européen de grande randonnée E5 (Europäischer Fernwanderweg E 5) ou encore les chemins des refuges sur le sentier de haute montagne de Merano (Meraner Höhenweg).
