Gnarled trees and a curious structure

When most people think of the Ultental Valley, they first think of hiking, skiing and good food. But Ultental Valley also has a number of special sights to offer.

In S. Geltrude/St. Gertraud, three larches tower in the sky at the Ultner Höfeweg farm trail. These are considered the oldest coniferous trees in Europe and are said to be over 2000 years old.

Not far away, also at the Ultner Höfeweg, the Hartungen waterfall rushes down into the depths and in S. Pancrazio/St. Pankraz stands what is probably the most curious building in South Tyrol. When a flood of the Falschauer Bach stream washed away all the farmhouses in its wake, only one remained standing. By chance, it was built on a huge rock.
