Blossom Farm Festival: A Taste of History

A glimpse behind the farm gates in the Lana region

THE FLAVOUR OF TRADITION

The annual Farmhouses in Bloom festival offers a unique opportunity to explore on foot — from farmhouse to farmhouse — the traditional farms and historic residences of Lana and the surrounding area. These treasured landmarks open their doors to visitors, inviting them to discover traditional farmhouse life, local customs and time-honoured traditions, while enjoying delicious specialities from their kitchens and cellars.

Each farmhouse features a varied programme of entertainment for all ages, along with guided tours and fascinating insights into rural traditions, customs and everyday life in the region.

During the Blossom Farm Festival the information office in Lana (Andreas-Hofer-Str. 9/1) will be open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and there will be an information stand at the bus station in Lana (Meraner Straße) from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The event takes place in all weather conditions.

The late medieval Reichneggerhof, dating back to the 15th century, was exclusively dedicated to fruit and wine growing until 2014. For over 10 years, high-quality brandies and liqueurs, as well as fruit spreads, dried fruit, apple juice, and many other delicacies, have been produced here for indulgence and enjoyment.

Idyllically located on Frigeleberg, amid sun-drenched vineyards at the entrance to the Ulten Valley, the farm’s main source of income is viticulture. Beekeeping and goat farming provide additional income. A particular highlight is the historic, newly restored wine cellar, offering fascinating insights into the history of wine production. Adjacent to the farm stands the restored Grübl Manor House, boasting panoramic views over the Adige Valley.

The Fruit Tree Museum at Larchgut offers visitors comprehensive documentation on the historical development and current state of fruit growing in our country. It immerses you in the world of apples: vivid exhibits, historical tools, and multimedia stations allow visitors to explore how cultivation, harvesting, and processing have changed over the centuries. Not only does this bring traditional farming culture to life, but it also makes modern fruit growing and its innovations easy to understand. A tour that fascinates both young and old alike.

For over 40 years, the Laimer family has been running the Pfefferlechner, first mentioned in documents in 1297. Cozy atmosphere, homely rooms, rustic cellars with a view of the stable, and a shady beer garden characterize it. Regional delicacies, fine wines, and home-brewed beer are served with warm hospitality. With “FREEDL,” it is the first family-run brewery in Italy specializing in non-alcoholic beer.

First recorded in 1676, Stettnerhof was originally built in the village center of Völlan and later relocated and rebuilt in the late 1970s. In addition to fruit farming and farm holidays, there has also been a farm shop for several years.

In a picturesque outbuilding belonging to the rectory, which once housed a woodshed, laundry, pigsty, and oven, the Völlan Farmers’ Museum is now located, impressively and authentically illustrating to visitors the rural life of the pre-industrial centuries.

The Bauer am Stein farmstead was built several centuries ago on a rock called “Stuan” above Völlan and offers a beautiful view of the Adige Valley. Over the past decades, the mountain farm has developed into a modern, well-managed agricultural enterprise with several lines of activity: fruit growing, keeping goats, sheep, and cattle, a farm tavern, and its own vineyard. When visiting the farm tavern, guests are treated by Karin Kofler Frei, “Farmer of the Year 2023.”

First documented in the 14th century, the Biedermannhof appears as the property of the Clarissan convent in Meran/Merano. For over 200 years, the Biedermannhof has been owned by the Innerhofer family. For centuries, wine was produced in the cellar vaults of the farm.

The Haidenhof winery is a traditional farm that has been cultivating wine for several generations. The 4 hectares of vineyards are located at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level, on southeast-facing steep slopes. The grapes grown here are used to produce high-quality wines, reflecting the rich history and expertise of the farm.
