St.Martin/ S. Martino in Passeiertal Valley: rich in tradition, broad-minded, close to nature

With its two hamlets Quellenhof/ Sorgente and Saltaus/ Saltusio, St. Martin/ S. Martino is the largest municipality in the Passeiertal Valley. 16km away from Meran/ Merano, this is a village with plenty of nature and history. Not only does it delight history lovers with its historic buildings and monuments, but it's also the perfect starting point for those who want to go hiking in the Hirzer mountain area. The Passeirer waterfall, the baroque church in the centre of the village, the Malerhaus (Painter’s House) – which once housed an art school – and the Schildhöfe (aristocratic estates) shape the village and landscape in St.Martin. But shops, cafés, a visitor brewery, a winery and a distillery have sprung up next to the history-laden buildings – proving that St.Martin has succeeded in combining tradition and modernity.
