In Moscow, a Finnish girl boards a train to Murmansk, a city in northern Russia, to escape a troubled love affair and visit the petroglyphs (rock carvings). During the long journey, she shares the sleeping compartment with a young Russian miner. The two travelers embark on a journey that changes their outlook on life. The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Finnish writer Rosa Liksom.
