Matinée dedicated to the physician and visionary Franz Tappeiner
17-1-2026 11:00 - 13:00
On Saturday, 17 January, at 11 a.m., an event will be held at the Rennweg Municipal Library in honour of the physician and visionary Franz Tappeiner on the occasion of his 210th birthday.
Merano's modern era began during the time of Franz Tappeiner (1816–1902). The spa doctor and tourism pioneer shaped Merano's transformation into a health resort and donated the Tappeinerweg trail. Cultural historian Ulrike Kindl, doctor Christian Wiedermann and journalist Patrick Rina shed light on Tappeiner's significance for culture, tourism and medicine. What remains today of his visionary view of the future?

Christian Wiedermann is an internist and clinical pharmacologist. From 2004 to 2017, he was head of internal medicine at Bolzano Hospital, and since 2021 he has been research coordinator at the Institute of General Medicine and Public Health in Bolzano.
