Winter Hike from Plan into the Lazinsertal Valley

Leisurely winter hiking in the serene, snow-covered mountains, along clearly-traced trails.

General description

Light forests and mountain meadows alternate along the entire route, with easy climbs and flat sections. In winter, the track is regularly maintained with a snow groomer.

Route description

From the Pfelders/Plan parking lot, follow the road into the village. At the crossroads near the schoolgrounds keep left, passing the Pfeldererhof and Alpenblick hotels before reaching trail #8. Take the narrow road, passing through the village and into the valley, across a ski slope above the ice rink and then follow the wide path down a slight dip. Continue hiking into the valley, crossing over the Faltschnalbach torrent before making a detour to the old Lazins/Lazines farmstead (mountain inn). Continue further into the valley along trails #8 and #24, until you reach a wide basin beneath the Lazins Alm mountain pasture. Follow the path that leads up to the newly-built Alpine refuge. Stop and take a little time to enjoy the peace and tranquillity in this unspoilt paradise, admiring the steep rockfaces and peaks of the Hohe Wilde and the Seelenkogel that soar some 3,500 m into the sky. On the return to Lazines, follow the same path as on the ascent. Shortly before the Lazines farmstead, cross over the bridge and take the trail to the left (following #24) to the sunny side of the valley a short distance from Zeppichl. A wide hiking trail leads back to Plan.
