This family-friendly circular hike on Mount Vigiljoch combines nature, history, and enjoyment. The ride up on the nostalgic chairlift is already a highlight. At the top, wonderful panoramic trails await, along with the historic little church of San Vigilio, wide views from the “Wetterkreuz,” and a stop at the Gampl Alm with its family park. An idyllic forest playground and the impressive descent into the valley with views of the Dolomites and the Adige Valley round off the tour.
We begin our tour with an ascent on the nostalgic chairlift. At the top, we follow hiking trail no. 4 to the left. Above the Jocher inn we reach the landmark of the Vigiljoch – the little Vigilius church. A visit is a must: the interior of the small church can be viewed and invites visitors to pause and reflect.
We continue on trail no. 9, which leads us directly to Mount Vigiljoch. There, at 1,743 meters, a weather cross marks this special viewpoint. From here, we follow trail no. 34 to the Gampl Alm, where a beautiful family park awaits us.
The return route follows trail no. 3 and then trail no. 4 back to the Sessellift inn. Here, an idyllic forest playground invites you to rest and play.
To finish, we enjoy the descent into the valley by chairlift – accompanied by a unique view of the distant Dolomites and the entire Adige Valley.
We take the cable car from the valley station in Lana comfortably up to the mountain station. Just a few steps further up, we reach the valley station of the nostalgic chairlift, which then takes us on to the mountain station at Mount Vigiljoch.
