The President of the Republic, Mariano De Santis, is now an elderly man nearing the end of his term of office. A widower, former lawyer and devout Catholic, he finds himself faced with two final dilemmas: whether to grant a pardon to two people who committed murder under circumstances that might be considered mitigating, or whether to enact the law on euthanasia.
