Snowshoe hike Mount Vigiljoch – Naturnser Alm

A snowshoe hike through quiet winter forests, past the little Church of St. Vigilius and on to Naturnser Alm.

This snowshoe hike takes you through the peaceful winter landscape of Mount Vigiljoch to Naturnser Alm at 1,910 m. After passing the snow-covered little Church of St. Vigilius, you soon enter quiet forests and experience the car-free Mount Vigiljoch at its most unspoilt. Shortly before reaching the mountain hut, the forest opens up to reveal beautiful views of the snow-covered mountains. A special winter experience for anyone who enjoys peace, nature and sweeping panoramic views.

Note: Naturnser Alm is closed in winter.

Directions

The starting point for this snowshoe hike is the mountain station of the Vigiljoch chairlift at 1,814 m. From there, the route follows the groomed trail no. 4 gently downhill to the Jocher mountain restaurant. This is where the snowshoes are put on.

The route then continues behind the picturesque little Church of St. Vigilius along trail no. 9 towards Hochwart. Especially in winter, the little church surrounded by snow creates a wonderfully romantic atmosphere. From this point onwards, the trail is no longer groomed. It initially follows a forest road before continuing along a narrow path through the peaceful winter forest. Far from the hustle and bustle, the tranquillity of the snow-covered landscape can be fully enjoyed.

At the junction towards Naturnser Alm, the route turns onto trail no. 9A and gradually climbs to the mountain hut at 1,910 m. Shortly before reaching the hut, the forest begins to thin out, opening up impressive views of the surrounding mountains. The sweeping panorama of snow-covered peaks makes this section one of the highlights of the hike.

The return follows the same route as the ascent.
