The new trailrun - event in South Tyrol! On 28 March 2021 the trail run elite will meet in Naturns to rock the Sunny Mountain in two competitions (15km and 30km).
Where Alpine meets Mediterranean: compete along with the top stars of the athletics world!
Inspired by the Ötzi Alpine Marathon, one of the most intensive extreme sports events in the Alps, in 2019 the idea was born to create a similar event for the trail run scene. Unfortunately it could not take place in 2020 due to exceptional circumstances - all the more we are now looking forward to March 2021!
The race is the opening of the trail run season in Naturno/Naturns: the Sonnenberg Mountain in the Texelgruppe Nature Park offers perfect conditions even in March!
Between the spa town of Merano/Meran and the Schnalstal Valley Glacier, trail runners will find ideal conditions and trails for all requirements. Whether running crisply over trail no.6 or somewhat more comfortably over the Merano High Mountain Trail, the perfectly developed and groomed trail network promises variety of distances and levels.
The new trail run event is named after the world-famous glacier mummy Ötzi, who was found nearby on September 19, 1991.
Since 1998 Ötzi has been exhibited in the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano/Bozen. Stored in a special cooling chamber, the preserved mummy is visible to visitors through a small window. His equipment and clothing have also been extensively restored in recent years.
The Archeoparc in Madonna di Senales/Unser Frau im Schnalstal is an open-air archaeology museum for the whole family. The exhibitions and open grounds offer insights into the life and work of Ötzi and his times and invite visitors to immerse themselves in the world of the Copper Age: Visitors can see original houses, play with bows and arrows, bake bread, or build a fire – all in Stone Age style, of course!
