Ötzi-Ultra Trail

45 km - 3.400 meters of altitude difference

// 45 km
// 3.400 m altitude difference

// Start: 07:00 am Naturns Town Hall Square
// finish: Naturns Town Hall Square

The route starts at 7:00 a.m. at the town hall square in Naturns, at an elevation of 530 m. The first few kilometres are covered on asphalt and gravel roads through the village of Naturns and continue to the trailhead. After approximately 3 km, you reach the first trail, followed by a beautiful ascent (trail no. 39 A) of around 400 m of elevation gain to Unterrain Hof. From there, a short section on an asphalt road leads to Unterwandhof, where you switch back onto the trails and begin the first descent (trail no. 26). After the fast but at times challenging downhill section of around 400 m of elevation loss, the route begins to ascend again (trail no. 91) towards Winkler Hof. Just before reaching the farm, however, the route branches off and continues with a varied and sometimes quite steep ascent (trail nos. 39 – 2 A – 2 – 8 A) to Durster Hof, where the first aid station awaits at around km 10. From there, the route continues via trail nos. 26 – 8 towards Partschinser Waterfall, before following the Sagenweg (trail no. 1) on flowing trails to the Partschins High Path (trail no. 23). At the end of the high-altitude trail, you reach the Hof Prünster, where the second aid station awaits you at km 18. The route then continues along trail nos. 23 – 8B to Nasereith and follows the Merano High Mountain Trail (trail no. 24) to the mountain station at Giggelberg. From there, a challenging downhill section takes you back to Dursterhof, where the third aid station awaits at km 26. The route then continues on trail no. 26 through a fantastic mix of uphill and downhill terrain, where every trail runner is sure to have a great time. After around 2 km on this trail, the next ascent begins, climbing 600 m of elevation gain (trail no. 39) to Gruberhof. From there, trail nos. 39 B – 2 lead towards Texelbahn, with a beautiful but at times steep ascent ahead. Having reached the highest point of the race (1,584 m), a beautiful section of the Merano High Mountain Trail (trail no. 24) follows, which ends on an asphalt road after around 15 km of the race. From there, approximately 1 km has to be covered on asphalt before reaching Hochforch Hof (4th aid station, km 30). The route then gets really exciting as you enter the spectacular and challenging 1,000 Steps Gorge. This gorge certainly lives up to its name, as it involves numerous steep steps both uphill and downhill. Once you have made it through the gorge, crossed its impressive suspension bridge, and passed through Pirchhof, a short section of asphalt follows to Grub Hof, where the two routes cross. Continuing along the Merano High Mountain Trail, the route follows trails and crosses a suspension bridge to Galmein Hof, then continues to Innerforch Hof. Shortly afterwards, the route leaves trail no. 24 and begins a long descent of around 750 m of elevation loss. The route first passes Seilbahn Unterstell (4th aid station, km 36), then continues via Höfl and trail no. 10 towards Naturns. Once you reach an elevation of around 750 m, a beautiful, relatively flat trail of approximately 1.5 km follows. Towards the end, there is a short uphill section before descending again for around 200 m of elevation loss. After completing this descent, there is one final ascent of approximately 150 m before the route heads towards the finish at the town hall square in Naturns via trails, gravel roads, and asphalt.
