Beneath the surface - the geology of the Schneeberg

This special guided tour is dedicated to the geology of Schneeberg and shows how closely the history of mining is linked to the natural conditions of the mountain. On site, rocks, ore deposits and geological structures will be examined and explained in an accessible way. Participants will learn how the ore deposits formed, how they can be recognised in the landscape and why Schneeberg was an important mining site for centuries.

Walking time: approx. 5 h (there and back) | Difference in altitude: approx. 700 m

The event will be in German and Italian.

Access is via the SS44 into the Passeiertal Valley to Moos and then continuing on the SS44bis towards the Timmelsjoch as far as Schönau.

We recommend hiking gear and a waterproof jacket. 

• The guides transport participants from the meeting point to the Obere Gostalm hut by minibus, where the guided tour begins.
• Lunch at the Schneeberg refuge is not included in the price.
