The earliest tradition dates back to the 19th century, when the Sacred Heart of Jesus vow was made in 1796, when the provincial councils of Tyrol met in Bozen to discuss the situation caused by the French troops under Napoleon. The Abbot of Stams, Sebastian Stöckl, appealed to them to entrust our province of South Tyrol to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and thus ask for divine assistance. Since then, the vow has been renewed annually and the fires lit on the mountain and on the hillsides.
The Hafling local group of the South Tyrolean Youth Farmers cordially invites you to the traditional Sacred Heart of Jesus bonfire on the Tommen Knott. A mountain range is lit on the Ifinger. The traditional fires are also lit in Vöran at Beimsteinknott and Rotsteinknott.
