Mountain Tour to Schwarzkopf Peak (2,805 m)

A long but technically straightforward mountain hike with beautiful views of the Spronser Seen Lakes.

Directions

From the large parking area in Pfelders (1,630 m), start your hike by following the forest road No. 6 towards the Spronser Joch ridge. After passing the last houses in the village, turn left and then immediately right, continuing along trail No. 6 through the forest. The trail crosses a forest road once and then climbs up to the beautifully situated Faltschnal Alm Alp (1,871 m).

Here, follow the wide forest road, still marked as trail No. 6, into the Faltschnal Valley (Faltschnaltal). Staying alongside the stream, you gradually make your way deeper into the valley at a fairly gentle pace. Eventually, a narrower mountain trail takes you slightly more steeply across alpine meadows until just before the head of the valley. Cross the stream and climb steeply through several switchbacks to the Faltschnaljoch ridge (2,417 m), where a fantastic panoramic view of the Texel Group awaits you.

From the pass, the trail continues southwards over increasingly rocky terrain, traversing the mountainside towards the Spronser Joch ridge (2,584 m). Note: In this area, old snowfields are often still present in early summer.

From the Spronser Joch ridge, the trail initially descends by around 70 metres in elevation. Shortly after the sections with cable protection, turn left. Caution: This junction is not signposted, so pay close attention to the red-and-white trail markings on the rocks.

Follow the narrow but technically straightforward trail past the Schwarzsee lake (2,589 m) and climb up to Grünjoch ridge (2,710 m). From here, cover the final section along the ridge, which is initially broad and becomes narrower towards the summit, until you reach the Schwarzkopf Peak (2,805 m). The view from the top over the shimmering Spronser Seen Lakes is particularly impressive.

The descent follows the same route back to Pfelders.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Leonhard, continue towards Moos, take on the Timmelsjochstraße and continue on the SP114 to Pfelders

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch, take on the Timmelsjochstraße to Moos and continue on the SP114 to Pfelders

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards St. Leonhard, take the Jaufenstraße SS44, continue towards Moos on the Timmelsjochstraße and continue on the SP114 to Pfelders
