The Gaul Gorge in Lana

A Nature Experience among Steep Rock Faces and Rushing Water

Just a few minutes' walk from the centre of Lana, a striking gorge landscape awaits. At the foot of Braunsberg Castle, the Falschauer/Valsura stream has carved deep into the rock, forming the Gaul Gorge (Gaulschlucht). Steep rock faces, lush vegetation and the sound of rushing water make this a special place to experience nature in Lana and its surroundings near Meran/Merano.

The approximately 400-metre-long Gaul Promenade follows the Falschauer/Valsura stream into the gorge and in direction Braunsberg Castle. Wooden walkways, rock tunnels and suspension bridges add variety to the walk and reveal ever-changing views of the rock formations and water. A wide range of plants grows between the steep rock faces, giving the gorge its distinctive character.

On hot summer days, the pleasantly cool air in the Gaul Gorge offers a welcome break from the heat. The gorge also reveals different sides of its beauty throughout the other seasons, with changing colours, light and the constant sound of the Falschauer stream.

The Gaul Gorge is a lovely destination for nature lovers, families and anyone looking to discover nature close to Lana. Thanks to its proximity to the village centre, a walk through the gorge can easily be combined with a stroll around Lana.
