Ski Tour to the Kolbenspitze Peak (2,868 m)
A long but beautiful panoramic ski tour.
Starting point: Kratzegg car park in Ulfas
End point: Kratzegg car park in Ulfas
Recommended season: Throughout the winter
Avalanche risk: There is a risk of avalanches and snow slabs on the steep slope leading to Stuenmandl. There is also an avalanche risk between Windtritt and Obere Ulfaser Alm Alp!
Directions
Start your ski tour at the Kratzegg car park in Ulfas and initially follow the forestry track towards Ulfaseralm Alp. Shortly after the small bridge, a sign points you towards Kolbenspitze peak. Follow the path to the right through the forest until you reach alpine meadows dotted with huts, an area known as Windritt.
Continue climbing towards Obere Ulfaser Alm Alp (1,960 m). Then ascend in wide zigzags across a steep slope until you reach a clearly visible stone landmark known as the “Stuanmandl”. From there, continue climbing to a ridge and follow it to the left up to the summit.
Descent: Follow more or less the same line as on the ascent to Obere Ulfaser Alm Alp. From there, descend to the right across a partly wooded slope towards Untere Ulfaseralm Alp. Finally, follow the farm track back to the Kratzegg car park.
Recommended equipment
Carry the necessary safety equipment, including an avalanche transceiver, avalanche shovel and probe. Depending on the route and conditions, a helmet, ski crampons and additional equipment may also be required.
Wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing and suitable ski touring equipment. Take sufficient water and food with you and plan your tour so that you return in good time, preferably before nightfall.
Arrival by car
• Coming from Pfelders, take the SP114 towards Platt and shortly before reaching Platt, turn right at the junction for Ulfas
• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Leonhard, continue towards Moos, take on the Timmelsjochstraße and continue on the SP114 to Platt. After Platt, continue towards Pfelders an turn left at the junciton for Ulfas
• Coming from the Timmelsjoch, take on the Timmelsjochstraße to Moos and continue on the SP114 to Platt. After Platt, continue towards Pfelders an turn left at the junciton for Ulfas
• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards St. Leonhard, take the Jaufenstraße SS44, continue towards Moos on the Timmelsjochstraße and continue on the SP114 to Platt. After Platt, continue towards Pfelders an turn left at the junciton for Ulfas
Parking is available at the paid Kratzegg car park in Ulfas.
