Matatzer/Ulfaser Waalweg Trail

Built: 1820
Refreshments: Ulfaser Alm Alp
Due to altitude this hiking trail is not recommended until early summer.

Good to know: the Matatzer/Ulfaser Waalweg carries water from 01/05 to 31/10.

Directions

You start at the parking area near Kratzegg Hof in Ulfas above Platt and first follow the gently ascending forest road no. 2A. You then continue along the same road, following trail no. 2C to Ulfaser Alm Alp.

At the alpine hut, the shaded Waalweg (irrigation channel trail) begins, leading you comfortably through spruce and larch forest to a clearing, where the view opens up to the Passeiertal Valley below.

At the end of the Waalweg, you reach the managed, wooden Waalerhütte. During your break, you’ll hear the bell, whose steady rhythm signals that the water is flowing freely.

Halfway along, the path briefly moves away from the watercourse before running parallel to the Waal again.

You return along the same route.

The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.

Recommended equipment

War sturdy hiking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather and bring sufficient water and provisions.
