Ski vacations in the South Tyrolean Alps

The five ski areas in the Merano region in South Tyrol/Südtirol offer winter sports at all levels. Above the spa town of Merano/Meran is the Merano 2000 family ski area. The romantic Vigiljoch ski area is also located not far from town, which is especially impressive for anyone seeking peace and tranquility. The nearby car-free mountain village of Plan/Pfelders, with its focus on environmental sustainability, offers both family-friendly and challenging ski slopes.

Winter sports fans will find demanding runs and excitement at the Schwemmalm ski area in quaint Val d’Ultimo/Ultental Valley. The Schnalstal Glacier ski area is impressive and attracts more adventurous skies with slopes rising up to 3,200m a.s.l. The ski season at the glacier area lasts from September to May.

Sledging is a tradition in South Tyrol and is still very popular with young and old. The sledging trail, roughly 3 km long, in Lazaun in front of the Schnalstal Glacier guarantees plenty of fun. It is located on the right side of the Val Senales/Schnalstal valley and runs from the mountain hut Lazaunhütte past the hotels of Maso Corto/Kurzras. A difference in altitude of 430 m must be overcome. The easiest way to ascend is by the gondola lift. And no genuine sledging party is complete without calling in at the rustic Lazaunhütte.
