Culture in the Deutschnonsberg Area

A meeting-point between two cultures

Along the biggest geological fault line in the Alpine region, the Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg region is situated along two intercontinental tectonic plates. Enclosed by the Laugenspitze peak, the Gampenpass mountain pass and the Mendelkamm ridge, the vibrant exchange of cultures throughout the Deutschnonsberg is noticeable in various ways. The cuisine of the Deutschnonsberg is also a combination of different gastronomic influences.

The historical artefacts and relics in the Deutschnonsberg area are well looked after and the old wartime bunker on the Gampenpass, formerly part of a WWII system of defence, is now home to the Gampen Gallery. Besides a permanent mineral collection, various art exhibitions are held on its four floors, including a photo exhibition illustrating the story of the Gampenpass road.

The sanctuaries in San Romedio in Trentino and Senale/Unsere liebe Frau im Walde in South Tyrol continue to attract visitors. Religious devotees still come to pray at the Holy Shrines and walk down various meditation paths and pilgrim walks, such as the Jakobsweg trail or Romedius-Pilgerweg trail.
