Archaeological trail Pfossental Valley - Grub Mountain Hut (A8)

General description

An extremely interesting and beautiful trail through Pfossental valley, part of the Texelgruppe Nature Park. This is the largest nature park in South Tyrol and if you’re lucky, you’ll see some of the fauna that lives here.

Route description

If you drive up the narrow Pfossental valley road, you will come to Vorderkaserfarm/Gasthof Jägerrast inn (1,693 m).

From Vorderkaser farm on, we walk the trail, rising slightly, through the Pfossental valley. We first come to Mitterkaser Mountain Hut (1,954 m), then Rableid Mountain Hut (2,004 m) and finally Maso Gelato/Eishof (2,071 m).

We continue on after Maso Gelato/Eishof farm which had to be rebuilt in 1972 after a fire, the trail being first level and then winding upwards in a serpentine, and we arrive at the Grub-Alm Mountain Hut (2,506 m).

It is now possible to return to our starting point or to continue on the trail to Eisjöchl (2,895 m), as far as the refurbished refuge Stettiner-Hütte. The trail, which continues to be well marked and not dangerous offers an absolutely spectacular panoramic view from the Eisjöchl of the surrounding Alpine landscape.

From the refuge Stettiner-Hütte, we take the trail down into Pfelderertal valley.
