One of the most characteristic features of the Schnalstal Valley is the array of high-altitude mountain inns. Some of these mountain huts in Schnalstal Valley are built at almost 3,000m a.s.l.. Despite their secluded location, these combine modern comforts with the charm of rustic Alpine inns. Many of these mountain inns and huts in the Schnalstal Valley are a few centuries old. These historic sites were built with experience, mostly in wind-sheltered positions but still in panoramic locations. The mountain inns in Schnalstal Valley are often family-run for generations, with much emphasis on traditions, even in terms of the food. On the menu are mainly South Tyrolean specialties, including homemade dumplings (Knödelsuppe), local game and lamb.
