Lazinser Tal Valley Cross-Country Skiing Trail in Pfelders

The cross-country ski run from Pfelders to the Lazins Alm Alp makes for an unforgettable experience.

The wide track is well suited to skating and classic skiing, and is maintained on a daily basis. Just before and after arriving in Lazins, there’s a trail to Zeppichl. This cross-country skiing trail is freely accessible without restrictions and has easy, medium-difficulty and challenging sections. On the way back to Pfelders (or Zeppichl) there’re a number of rapid descents, where skiers need to be on the lookout for pedestrians and oncoming cross-country skiers.

The route from Plan to the Lazins Alm Alp is rather tricky due in part to the long ascent and steep incline. But at the refuge in the wide valley basin below, one can enjoy almost effortless skiing at 680 m per lap on a 15 m run. The lap around Lazines is more challenging, at 1,336 m per lap on a 52 m run.

Info: Just before and after Lazins/Lazines, pedestrians follow the hiking trail along the access road to Zeppichl.

In case of heavy snow, the cross-country ski run near the Lazins Alm Alp remains closed from Lazins, due to the risk of avalanches.

Directions

The most frequently used starting point for the cross-country ski trail is at the junction at approximately 1,650 m above sea level, above the ice rink. From here, the hiking trail and the cross-country ski trail run parallel to each other further into the valley.

There are two ways to reach the starting point of the trail:

1) Via the Gampenlift ski lift

Follow the road through the village towards Gampenlift/Zeppichl for approximately 0.5 km. At the bottom station of the Gampenlift ski lift, turn left straight away and cross the bridge. Continue a short distance further into the valley to the ice rink, then head uphill to the left to reach the start of the cross-country ski trail. The distance from the Gampenlift is approximately 200 m.

2) Along the mountain slope

From the car park with the bus stop, climb directly up the mountain slope, following the right-hand edge of the ski run, until you reach the highest houses. From there, follow a vehicle track further into the valley until you reach the area above the ice rink. The route is approximately 0.5 km long, with just under 30 m of elevation gain.

Starting point at Zeppichl for less experienced cross-country skiers

If you are relatively new to cross-country skiing, the settlement of Zeppichl, at 1,682 m above sea level, is a particularly good starting point. It lies approximately 1 km further into the valley from Pfelders, measured from the car park with the bus stop.

If you already have a reasonable level of experience, you can ski back down to Pfelders along the edge of the mostly flat and little-used ski run.

Zeppichl can only be reached on foot. From the car park with the bus stop, you can cover approximately one third of the route to Zeppichl using the free shuttle bus. Get off at the Gampenlift stop. The shuttle bus operates only at weekends and during school holidays.
