The glacier mills, unique in South Tyrol, bear witness to the tremendous geological power of prehistoric glacial streams. On the forested slope of Platt/Plata, more than a dozen of these cylindrical holes carved into the rock can be found. One glacier mill, 4.5 meters wide and 8 meters deep, as well as another 1.4 meters wide and nearly 3.6 meters deep, have been declared natural monuments. These mills were formed when glacial meltwater carried stones that, swirling in eddies, gradually hollowed out the rock.
Directions: From the village of Platt/Plata, follow trail no. 6 towards Breiteben until you reach the chapel, then turn left onto the marked trail no. 5, which leads downhill to the glacier mill.
