To the east of Schnalserbach stream is the first village of the valley, Monte S. Caterina/Katharinaberg, located on a panoramic hill.
At the highest point of the village stands the parish church build in 1499, in the midst of single-family homes and alpine farms. This idyllic sunny mountain village offers a panoramic view of the valley up to Juval Castle. Directly at Monte S. Caterina, the most famous hiking trail in the Texelgruppe Nature Park begins: the Merano High Mountain Trail. Other hikes lead to century old farms and the 800 year old Moar Alm mountain hut.
