"Steinbock" Path

General description
Along the 400-metre-long, flat themed trail by the ibex enclosure in Moos, families with children can discover the fascinating nature of the Hinterpasseier valley. They can learn through play, observe the surroundings, and test their skills at climbing stations.
Route description

From the bus stop "Moos, Dorf" walk through the village square to the Bunker Mooseum. The Ibex Trail, freely accessible, starts shortly after the glass tower, the entrance of the museum. A large ibex silhouette marks the beginning of the trail.

Shortly after, you can already discover the main characters! Along the trail stretches an enclosure where a colony of ibex lives. With some luck, you can watch them – how they move, who is in charge, and how skillfully they manage even the steepest slopes. If you want to get even closer, you can enter the walkable enclosure as part of a museum visit. At the Bunker Mooseum, you will learn more about the return of these impressive animals to the Alps.

On the Ibex Trail, you will find several stations where you can learn playfully, observe carefully, and also actively participate:

At the first information board you will learn what to expect along the trail – and that you can also test your climbing skills. Are you as skillful as an ibex?

The second information board invites you to look down into the valley. There the water rushes – a natural force that has shaped the landscape for millennia. But water can do even more: it is also an important source of energy. Hydropower has long been used in Hinterpasseier to generate electricity. Tip: if you want to learn more, visit the Stiëber Mooseum at the nearby waterfall.

At the third information board, you can take a break and enjoy the view. Perhaps you will see the ibex in action – or simply enjoy the peace of the mountains. Here you will learn how to look around in the enclosure and what exciting information awaits you at the museum.

At the fourth information board, you need a real explorer’s eye! High up in the rocks, bearded vultures nest, and an old World War II bunker hides in the forest. Some things are immediately visible, others are well hidden – look closely!
Game idea: Who finds three special things in the landscape first?

The fifth information board leads you to a dry stone wall – a small natural wonder. What looks like a simple pile of stones is actually a living habitat for many animals and plants. Lizards, spiders, and beetles hide in the crevices. Solitary bees nest here, and mosses or tiny flowers grow on the stones. Can you spot them?

Finally, the sixth information board points the way into the open landscape. You are on the European long-distance trail E5, which runs from France to the Adriatic. If you want to continue, in about two hours you can reach the mountain village of Rabenstein/Corvara. Along the way, you can constantly discover new things: nature, silence, and the stories of the mountains accompany you.

The Ibex Trail is ideal for families, school groups, hikers, and nature enthusiasts. It combines observation, movement, and knowledge, and is fun in any weather.
