South Tyrol Jakobsweg – Stage 12: Algund to Kastelbell

Stage 12 of the South Tyrol Jakobsweg from Algund to Kastelbell via Töll, Rabland and Naturns, featuring spiritual and cultural landmarks.

General description

The Jakobsweg is a Europe-wide pilgrimage network leading to Santiago de Compostela. One of its routes crosses South Tyrol and the Vinschgau Valley. Stage 12 from Algund to Kastelbell combines spiritual sites, historic paths, cultivated landscapes and panoramic sections along the Sonnenberg.

This stage of the Jakobsweg begins in Algund, at the bus stop (line 213) near the municipal offices. From here, the route follows trail 25A towards the Algund irrigation channel path, leading to the weir at Töll. The path then continues along the Vinschgau cycle path to Töll railway station.

Passing the historic K.u.K. Museum and restaurant Bad Egart – Onkel Taa, the route continues on a woodland path to Rabland and the Saringer Bridge. Via Cutraun Street, it reaches the Vinschgau main road, which is crossed. After about 200 m, the St James’ Chapel is reached, next to a replica Roman milestone by the Hanswirt Hotel.

The walk continues along Gerold Street to Happichl Inn, then follows trail 26 and the Sonnenberg Panoramic Trail 91, later trail 39, reaching Naturns above the famous St Prokulus Church.

Through the village, the route passes the Erlebnistherme Naturns and the war memorial to the parish church. From there, it descends left towards the Unterstell cable car, following signs to Staben. In Staben, trail 1 climbs to the Staben irrigation channel path. Via trail 3, then trail 4, the route finally reaches Kastelbell, the end of stage 12.
