Zieltal valley hiking from hut to hut

Challenging alpine hike from the Texelbahn mountain station into Zieltal Valley to Lodner Hut.

General description

Behind Partschins lies the wild and water-rich Zieltal Valley, one of the most pristine landscapes in the Texel Group Nature Park. Water shapes this valley in many forms – rushing streams, springs and the impressive Partschins Waterfall.

This demanding hut-to-hut hike leads along the Merano High Mountain Trail Nr. 24 (Meraner Höhenweg Nr. 24) deep into the valley, offering dramatic alpine scenery and authentic mountain huts.

Texelbahn cable car – Giggelberg – Nasereit Hut – Zieltal Valley – Zielalm – Lodner Hut – return same way

From the Texelbahn mountain station, reach the Giggelberg restaurant within minutes. Follow the Merano High Mountain Trail 24 to Nasereit Hut (1,523 m).

From here, trail 8 leads into the wild Zieltal Valley, passing alpine meadows and mountain huts along the rushing Ziel stream. Continue past Kaserstein, Ginggl and Zielalm (2,198 m).

The destination is Lodner Hut (2,295 m), beautifully located at the confluence of the Ziel and Lafais streams. It serves as a base for ascents to several surrounding 3,000-metre peaks.

Did you know?

The Lodner Hut (Italian: Rifugio Cima Fiammante) in Zieltal Valley was built as early as 1891 by the Meran section of the Alpine Club and is one of the oldest and most important alpine bases in the Texel Group Nature Park.

It is beautifully located at the confluence of the Ziel and Lafais streams and surrounded by impressive alpine 3,000-metre peaks, serving as a starting point for many classic summit tours.
