RULES AND OBLIGATIONS FOR DOG OWNERS
A valid EU pet passport must be carried. This passport must note the rabies vaccination of your dog, required for entry. It must be at least 21 days old and no more than 1 year old.
In addition, your four-legged friend needs a microchip for purposes of clear identification. For dogs that were first marked before 3 July 2011, a clearly legible tattoo is sufficient. Dogs younger than three months which have therefore not yet been vaccinated against rabies are not allowed to enter Italy.
In Italy the so-called leash obligation for dogs applies, and additionally a muzzle must be carried at all times, and used when necessary.
And do not forget: It is mandatory to dispose of dog excrement!
