The mountain inns and huts of the Merano region are famous for their sunny terraces with panoramic views, and for their delicious Tyrolean and Italian dishes. Innkeepers serve a hearty Tyrolean lunch with apple strudel, followed by espresso. In wooden parlors with traditional tiled wood-burning ovens, guests can experience the true warmth of South Tyrolean hospitality.
Every year, the best mountain huts in South Tyrol/Südtirol are awarded with a Snow Star (Schneestern in German). Several mountain huts in Merano and Environs have received this coveted award in recent years, including the Schöne Aussicht mountain shelter in Val Senales/Schnalstal Valley, the Steinrast mountain restaurant in the Schwemmalm ski area, and the Lazins inn in Plan/Pfelders.
The Real Quality in The Mountain (Echte Qualität am Berg) initiative is an award presented to mountain huts and inns for their authentic local quality. The plaque is awarded to those businesses setting the best example for local standards.
Certain mountain huts in the South Tyrolean mountains can also be rented privately for New Year’s celebrations.
