Country and people in the heart of Meran and Environs in South Tyrol

In Schenna/Scena with its all-year round mild climate at the sunny plateau above the historic spa town of Meran/Merano, customs have always been carefully maintained by young and old. History and traditions are more alive today than ever. Thus, flamboyant processions, church holidays and festivals continue to be held during the course of the year.

Special days, customs and ceremonies are distributed across the entire year. Many inhabitants of Schenna are proudly wearing their traditional costume to this day, whether to mass on Sundays, but also to weddings and christenings. Most inhabitants are active in associations such as the band, theatre, sports club or the support of regional culture or heritage.

Thus, Schenna offers rural charm in close proximity to a town, an urban appealing village, where agriculture and animal breeding still constitutes a significant means of income. Here, 800,000 fruit trees overall have been planted on 300 ha meadows and nearly 70 farmers in Schenna keep around 1,500 head of livestock. The majority of fruit growers produce the fruit in accordance with the guidelines for integrated production. This is noticeable during the year in the numerous farmers and herb markets in the surrounding area.
