The classic dishes of South Tyrolean cuisine in Meran/Merano and Environs testify to the influences of the cultural diversity and history of the region. The broad spectrum of the popular South Tyrolean cuisine is due to a combination of old Austrian culinary art, traditional rural Tyrolean food and the diversity of Italian cooking from the neighboring regions of Trentino, Lombardy and Veneto. Allow yourself to be convinced, whether in the fine
restaurants of Schenna/Scena, or the numerous
mountain huts in the area.
Modern South Tyrolean cuisine draws on a combination of Mediterranean and Alpine delicacies and influences. However, it also owes its level of distinction to the large selection of high-quality local
products from South Tyrol, which are also available at the
weekly and farmer’s markets in Schenna and the surrounding area. The culinary highlights of the region are the local regional specialties, not least as featured in the autumnal
Törggelen feast in October and November.
The wide variety of local dishes and
recipes is constantly being developed further, also thanks to the
Foody Factory event, where passionate chefs try out new creations and rediscover the ancient ingredients of traditional farmhouse cooking. With the right ingredients and a courageous dose of creativity, traditional dishes such as dumplings or apple strudel realize their full culinary potential.
