Winter Hike Rabenstein - Schönau - Winter Activities in South Tyrol

Peaceful winter hike along prepared trails from Rabenstein to Schönau inn.

Starting point: bus stop Oberrabenstein

End point: bus stop Oberrabenstein

Directions

From the bus stop "Oberrabenstein" in Rabenstein (1,419 m), initially follow the road along hiking trail E5 towards the Timmelsjoch. After approximately 400 metres, stay on the road instead of continuing along the E5. At the end of the village, turn left onto the prepared forest road and follow it.

At the next road junction, turn right and, after a few metres, join the E5 route again. This section leads gently downhill for around two kilometres, with hardly any incline, crossing a bridge and passing a mountain farm. Stay on the wide path until, after approximately 500 metres, you turn right towards Schönau.

Following the prepared trail, you eventually reach the Gasthof Schönau (1,720 m) via a slightly steeper section, passing the Bergchalet Englhof along the way.

The return journey follows the same route as the way there.

Recommended equipment

Wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy and waterproof hiking boots and, if necessary, traction aids such as microspikes or crampons. Walking poles can provide additional support on snowy and slippery trails.

Parking

• Coming from Meran towards the Passeiertal Valley, take the Jaufenstraße SS44 to St. Leonhard, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße to Moos. After Moos, turn right and continue to Rabenstein

• Coming from the Timmelsjoch, take the Timmelsjochstraße until just before Moos, then turn left and continue to Rabenstein

• Coming from the Jaufenpass towards St. Leonhard, take the Jaufenstraße SS44, continue on the Timmelsjochstraße towards Moos and further along the Timmelsjochstraße. After Moos, turn right and continue to Rabenstein
