Marling

Alpine-Mediterranean lifestyle above the spa town of Merano

The village of Marling is located on a glacial moraine hill above the spa town of Merano. With its privileged location close to Merano, Marlengo combines the amenities of the city with the benefits of the peaceful countryside.
It offers outstanding panoramic views and a well-defined network of hiking trails with several routes at three different levels, leading from the bottom of the Val d’Adige/Etschtal Valley up to the plateau of the Marling mountain. In addition to the rich and varied array of activities and recreational opportunities, Marlengo also offers many excellent inns and mountain restaurants, both in the village and on the mountainside.
Wine is also part of everyday life in Marling. There are signs of this everywhere, including the large Merano cooperative winery, numerous private vineyards, and the WineCultureTrail, all of which help to make the culture of wine tangible in Marling, day in, day out.

Castel Lebenberg in Tscherms is one of the largest and best preserved castles in South Tyrol, dating back to the 13th century. Expanded over time, it combines architectural styles from the Middle Ages to the Rococo. During a guided tour, available until the end of October from Monday to Thursday, visitors can discover highlights such as the three storey chapel, the French garden, and elegant rooms like the Hall of Mirrors and the Knights’ Hall. ✨🏰

On Easter Monday, the racing season opens in Merano with the traditional Haflinger Horse Races, accompanied by a festive parade through the city center featuring horses and riders in South Tyrolean costume.🏇🏁

Celebrating its 130th edition, this unique event is exclusively dedicated to Haflinger horses and combines living heritage with professional sport. A special highlight this year is the nostalgic “Bauerngalopprennen anno dazumal”, where former child riders aged 50 and over return to the track, reviving the spirit of the historic race.
