Winter hike from Mount Vigiljoch along the Egger Trail to the Eggerhof Farm

This winter hike starts at the mountain station of the Vigiljoch cable car and leads through the snow-covered forests of Mount Vigiljoch to the Eggerhof inn. The trail winds mainly through peaceful coniferous and mixed forests, which transform into an idyllic winter wonderland during the colder months. Along the way, beautiful views of the surrounding snow-covered mountains open up. Particularly charming is the contrast between the quiet forest sections and the open, snow-covered alpine meadows, which give the landscape its special winter atmosphere. This hike is ideal for anyone looking to enjoy the tranquillity of nature in winter and discover Mount Vigiljoch away from the more frequented trails.

Directions

The winter hike starts at the mountain station of the Vigiljoch cable car. From here, the route initially follows trail no. 33 through the snow-covered forests of Mount Vigiljoch. The trail climbs gently through the winter landscape before continuing along trail no. 31. This path leads through peaceful forest sections and eventually reaches the open, snow-covered alpine meadows. After the clearing, the route follows trail no. 27 to the Eggerhof inn, where the winter hike ends.

Recommended equipment

Waterproof winter hiking boots with good grip, warm and weatherproof clothing, hiking poles and, depending on snow and ice conditions, microspikes. Snowshoes are required on certain sections of the trail.

Arrival by car

From Merano direction Lana to the centre of Lana, Vigiljoch cable car valley station
Parking at the valley station of the cable car is limited and subject to a fee. We therefore recommend arriving by public transport.

Public transport

The cable car is easily accessible by public transport. The Lana bus station is just a 3-minute walk from the valley station. Take advantage of the well-developed public transport network and the convenient connections to the train stations in Marlengo, Merano, or Lana/Postal.
