Winter Hike from Mount Vigiljoch to Aschbach/Rio Lagundo via the Little Church of St. Vigilius.

This scenic winter hike connects the car-free Mount Vigiljoch with Aschbach and takes you through peaceful, snow-covered forests. Right at the beginning of the hike, the picturesque little Church of St. Vigilius awaits, offering magnificent views of the Adige Valley and the Dolomites. The route then leads mostly downhill through shady coniferous forests, where the snow often remains for a particularly long time. The groomed trails provide an enjoyable winter hiking experience and, depending on snow conditions, also offer opportunities for sledding. A wonderful tour for anyone looking to enjoy peace, nature and the special atmosphere of Mount Vigiljoch in winter. At the end of the hike, the Aschbach Cable Car takes you comfortably down to the valley.

Directions

The hike starts at the mountain station of the Mount Vigiljoch chairlift. From there, the route follows the groomed winter hiking trail no. 4 to the little Church of St. Vigilius. It then continues along the forest road towards Aschbach.

The route leads mostly downhill through shady forests, where snow conditions generally remain good well into the winter season. All trails are groomed and are suitable for winter hiking as well as sledding, depending on snow conditions.

The hike ends at the mountain station of the Aschbach Cable Car, from where the cable car provides a comfortable ride down to the valley.

Recommended equipment

Waterproof winter hiking boots with good grip, warm and weatherproof winter clothing, hiking poles and microspikes for icy sections.

Arrival by car

From Merano direction Lana to the centre of Lana, Vigiljoch cable car valley station
Parking at the valley station of the cable car is limited and subject to a fee. We therefore recommend arriving by public transport.

Public transport

The cable car is easily accessible by public transport. The Lana bus station is just a 3-minute walk from the valley station. Take advantage of the well-developed public transport network and the convenient connections to the train stations in Marlengo, Merano, or Lana/Postal.
