November & December: Enjoying the Outdoor Autumn experience in Schenna, near Meran

Get the most out of autumn and winter in Schenna/Scena. Hike along well-kept paths up the Alpine pastures to the most spectacular mountain refuges, and in modern cable cars. Afterwards, you can look forward to luxurious relaxation at a wellness centre. Sample Mediterranean delicacies in congenial rustic taverns, enjoy exciting pre-Christmas shopping – as well as skiing fun for the whole family. All this right on your doorstep. November and December in Schenna gently ease you into the cold season.

Throughout its “Slow Mountain Schenna” campaign, Schenna’s autumn season offers extended opening hours, with businesses running through into the new year. Relax and enjoy traditional South Tyrolean hospitality in luxurious Spa hotels, upmarket guesthouses and on traditional farms. Even the cableway Taser remains in operation until 9th January, enabling visitors to get around and take full advantage of the wide range of opportunities offered by the region. Many mountain refuges and taverns are open for business to welcome guests with their mouth-watering South Tyrolean specialties. The mild late autumn temperatures, with daytime temperatures often climbing above 20°C, provide ideal conditions for the annual “Törggelen” autumn celebrations in wine taverns and country inns. After all day hiking, end the day on a high note tasting the new wine while making new friends. Sample savoury dumplings and roasted chestnuts with the locals and other visitors who’ve come from far and wide. The ice rink in the village centre, which remains open from 19th November to 16th January, guarantees fun for the whole family. The new “Schenna lights up” series of events is a real insider tip – and the season’s highlight. This means that on Fridays, all the shops, arts & craft stores and farm stalls at the village market in the centre of Schenna stay open later into the evening. Piping hot food is served at the numerous stalls, with live music rounding off the programme.

At the nearby family-friendly Merano 2000 ski area, winter sports enthusiasts of all ages get all they were hoping for. Only 4 km from Schenna, Merano 2000 boasts seven ski lifts, 40 km of ski slopes, cross-country ski trails and a super-long sled run. The bus ride takes just 6 min to the ski resort from the town centre. The cable car then brings you conveniently to the top of the Merano 2000 ski slopes.

The Taser cable car operate until the 9th January 2022, offering breath-taking panoramas. Why not stop at one of the rustic Alpine refuges and mountain huts to enjoy some excellent homecooked South Tyrolean specialities in a magnificent setting.
