Movie in italian language: Dio ride

In the heart of the 17th century, there is a man who speaks of God: he is Friar Leopoldo da Casamacchia. He speaks of a God who is close to mankind, capable even of laughing alongside them, and his message spreads from village to village. The echo of that voice reaches as far as Rome, and the Pope decides to entrust the case to Cardinal Maculani, the most authoritative inquisitor of his time. What begins as a trial turns into an unexpected confrontation, destined to call into question convictions that seemed unshakeable. Whilst Leopoldo’s fate now seems sealed, that of Maculani and those like him who have been seized by doubt takes unexpected turns. For one may silence a voice, but not what that voice has left behind in others.
