Movie in italian language: Serpenti

Paolo Marra killed his wife, for no reason at all. Consumed by remorse, he decides to turn himself in: he wants to pay the price, to serve his sentence to the very end. But between distracted police officers, overzealous lawyers, fortune-tellers and bureaucratic quibbles, nobody takes him seriously. In the space of a single day, the police station becomes a microcosm of society: every person he meets, for different reasons, fails to give proper weight to what he has done. And he finds himself chasing a conviction that nobody wants to give him.

An original, tragicomic and satirical film that tackles gender-based violence by omission, avoiding any rhetorical shortcuts: it does not recount the act itself, but the indifference that surrounds it.

The film premiered at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in the Venice Spotlight section
