Movie in German language: Gentle Monster

Lucy and Philip lead a quiet life in the countryside with their son. The director is recovering there from his burnout, whilst the concert pianist goes about her work. But one day, the police turn up at their door. When Lucy drives to the police station, the floor button in the lift reads ‘child pornography’. And with that, her world comes crashing down. Who is the man she loves? What has happened that she knows nothing about? Whilst his role diminishes as the plot unfolds, that of the investigating inspector grows in prominence.

This social drama by Marie Kreutzer (CORSAGE) is carried by a magnificent Léa Seydoux (BLUE IS A WARM COLOUR). The Austrian entry, which was screened in the Cannes Competition, impresses with its unsparing look at patriarchy, whilst allowing for some painful ambivalences
