Book presentation in German: "Nimm Abschied von Stuttgart, Astyanax"

A conversation between the author Aglaia Blioumi and Stefan Lindinger and Kosmas Raspitsos. Introduction by Brigitte Mazohl. Free entry.

About the book:
In the late 1950s, Pantelis leaves his homeland. After completing his military service in Cyprus, he boards a train to Stuttgart with a plywood suitcase – in search of work, freedom and a new life. He finds his first job at Bosch, experiences fleeting romances and eventually meets Katerina, one of the many Greek women who came to Germany in the 1960s.
Pantelis’s suitcase holds the stories of an entire generation: memories of expulsion, war and dictatorship, of new beginnings and loss. Decades later, these stories unfold in the life of his daughter, who grows up in multicultural Ludwigsburg – caught between two worlds, two languages and two perspectives: that of the child who remembers, and that of the adult woman who nurtures her memory.
But who is the enigmatic Astyanax, who leads her to see reality in a dual light?
A post-migrant novel about home and uprooting, about the power of memory, German-Greek relations and a shared European identity – sensual, poetic and of radiant intensity.

Aglaia Blioumi, born in Stuttgart in 1972, completed her PhD at the Free University of Berlin on German-Greek migration literature and conducts research at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on (post-)migration literature, cultural studies in German, intercultural literary studies, travel literature and literary pedagogy. To date, she has contributed short stories and poems to bilingual (German/Greek) anthologies.
