The series of events draws on the cosmopolitan origins of the Fromm family of collectors, but not exclusively so: beyond the family history, it also focuses on life in Merano at that time, from 1905 onwards. It was in that year that the family first chose Merano as a health resort; they were integrated into social life and played an active role in shaping it. This year, the focus is on the following themes: sacramental wine, music, architecture and literature.

Villa Campenhausen, situated in the immediate vicinity of Villa Freischütz in Obermais, was commissioned in 1933 by Baroness Marguerite von Campenhausen. It cannot be ruled out that Franz Fromm was able to follow the construction process of this building from his garden, given that the surrounding area was still largely undeveloped at the time. Among the residential buildings constructed in Merano during the 1930s, Villa Campenhausen occupies a special place. The villa’s design and form are exemplary of the internationally influenced style of modern architecture of its time. Both the choice of architect Johannes Ludwig, as a proponent of a functionally oriented architectural language, and the villa’s frequent changes of ownership point to an interesting and varied history of the building.
