Scenic hike in the Adige Valley to St. Apollonia with views of the Dolomites, continuing on to St. Jakob with its Romanesque frescoes.
Scenic hike in the Adige Valley – from Sirmian to Prissian
We take the bus to Nals in the Adige Valley and then continue on to Sirmian, a hamlet in the municipality of Nals. There we start our hike, which takes us along forest and meadow paths to the small hilltop church of St. Apollonia with its magnificent view of Bolzano and the Dolomite peaks beyond. The trail continues uphill at a gentle gradient through mixed forest until we reach the idyllically situated little church of St. Jakob. Inside, it houses colourful frescoes that are among the most important Romanesque murals in our country. We continue along the ‘Path of Contemplation of the 7 Sacraments’ to Grissian and finally down the ‘Waldsteig’ to Prissian, where the bus is waiting to take us home. There is a place to stop for refreshments along the way.
