Algiers, 1938. Meursault, a 30-year-old office worker, leads a life of indifference and monotony. One day after his mother’s funeral, he begins an affair with his former colleague Marie. But his seemingly carefree daily life is soon disrupted by his neighbour Raymond, who draws Meursault into his shady dealings – until a fateful event occurs on the beach one sweltering day.

Renowned director François Ozon brings Albert Camus’s literary classic to life with captivating black-and-white imagery and a superb ensemble cast. The film successfully conveys the timeless relevance of Camus’s text, thereby tying in with current debates on colonialism and racism.
